The setup of the game is pretty much the same, yet the storyline makes it feel brand new. I won’t get into the details of how the first game is like the second one as it will ruin the story, but even with the similarities, it still works. And you may think that I’m being silly by trying not to ruin the “story” to a puzzle game – trust me, you’ll be happy I didn’t say anything.

Aside from simply using the portal gun, there are other elements added to the game play. Different gels add different effects to the landscape, adding another layer to the puzzles. Blue gel is bouncy, orange gel is super slick and will propel you forward at great speeds and white gel allows a portal to be shot onto any surface it covers. I was actually afraid that the white gel would make the game a bit too hard, because sometimes the only reason I figured out a puzzle was due to the fact that I couldn’t shoot a portal just ANYWHERE. My fears were unfounded however and Portal 2 has just the right amount of difficulty.

I haven’t had a lot of time to experiment with the cooperative play, but from what I saw it looks to be great fun as well.

Overall this is a perfect addition to the Portal franchise. I’m definitely hoping for a third installment. Definitely worth playing.
